Google Keep is Google’s equivalent of Apple Notes, but a bit better. It’s a place to keep snippets and other stuff. Now that our family has moved to Android phones we need a simple way that we can synchronise notes across Android and Apple devices. Google Keep seems to be the best solution. There is a Google Keep app for Android and a Google Keep app for iOS. The last piece of the puzzle is getting Google Keep on your Apple desktop computer. Here’s how.

Here is Google Keep in my dock:

Google Keep in my dock

Here’s what it looks like when it’s running:

It looks like any other OS X app, but in fact it is just a shortcut to a webpage. From Google Chrome you can grab any webpage, create a shortcut to it, and make it look like an app.

To do this you need to go to keep.google.com, then click on the top three dots at the top of your chrome browser. From the dropdown menu that appears find ‘More Tools’ then select ‘Create Shortcut.’ (See screenshot below.)

This will create a ‘shortcut’ to the webpage that acts like any other application. You can drag this shortcut into your dock like any other application.

There is an option when you create the shortcut called “open as window” and if you select this it will open the application in the window that looks like a regular application without the chrome search bar. This makes the web page look a regular application.

Here’s the results, notice that it doesn’t’ even have the Chrome searcher, it looks like an app.
