In Apple Contacts you can drag any contact into a group to add them to that group. Sometimes dragging the contact into a group does not work. The way to fix this is to quit Apple Contacts and re-open it and the problem should be resolved.

I was locked out of my Apple podcast creator account. It was an endless loop of entering name and password, then entering verification code, then back to name and password. At times I could catch a glimpse of my personal information, so it was logging me in, but the page was then disappearing and throwing me back to the login page. It turns out this is a common problem, but thankfully there’s a simple fix.

There’s a bug in Apple’s software that means you can’t clone your hard disk on a Silicon Mac yet. You will be able to use Time Machine or Carbon Copy Cloner to make a backup, but you can’t yet make a bootable backup.

Here’s the message from Carbon Copy Cloner:

Since Catalina our movies keep getting interrupted by the Apple mail app randomly opening. One minute we are watching a movie then next moment half our scene vanishes and the Apple Mail appears! Thanks to my son Tim who worked out the solution below.

If you close Apple mail (Apple-W or hit the red circle) then if Apple mail has problems making a connection it will pop up fullscreen next to your movie. If however you hide mail, (Apple-H) then it won’t pop up and interrupt your movie.

It turns out to be some kind of a problem with Apple’s mail app that when it can’t connect to your server it comes up full-screen. My theory is that when you are watching a movie perhaps at times this makes it hard for mail to check the mail. Hiding mail instead of closing the window is a good workaround.

The latest iMovie has a minor bug in it. The upload to Vimeo button may not work. The way to fix this is to choose ‘Share:File…’ instead of ‘Share:Vimeo…’ from the File Menu.

Save your movie as a file.

LargeThen upload your movie to Vimeo using the Vimeo website.

This option to upload directly to video from iMovie does not work in the latest iMovie. Instead, choose ‘File…’ to save the video then upload it to Vimeo manually.

The problem seems to be that iMovie tries to upload the movie as a .mov file but Vimeo wants an mp4 file.

There seems to be a long-standing bug with Apple mail that when you go to print an email message you can get stuck on a window that says “Generating content to print”.

This was fixed on my computer by unselecting the ‘Load remote content in messages’ option under Mail: Preferences: Viewing.

Generating content to print

For some reason Apple mail doesn’t seem to be able to print images properly that are loaded from a remote server.

In Australia there is a very clever scam going on at the moment. When your email stops working, you may get a call from someone claiming they are from ‘Apple Support.’ It may be a polite greeting like ‘Hello this is Mary from Apple Support and we’ve noticed you’ve had a problem with your Gmail on your Apple Computer. This is a problem we are working to fix. Are you at your computer now…’ etc. This happened to a relative of mine and it was soooo convincing that I could not initially convince them that it was not Apple! To verify it we asked for a case number from the person, then rang Apple support, to find there was no such case number.
