How to open a Microsoft publisher file on your Macintosh

Microsoft publisher has been around for a long time but  it has never been able to run on Apple computers.   If you’re like me you  probably have friends who have Microsoft publisher files they occasionally email you. Sadly there is no way to open  a Microsoft publisher file on a Mac, until now…

Here are two websites that can convert Microsoft publisher files to PDF.

You can then open, read and print the pdf file on your Mac. You can even edit them.

I have tested both of these conversion sites and they both work pretty well.  They are both free.

Site one is easier, to use, just read the instructions below, but I’ve included two sites just in case one of them goes down or doesn’t work for you.

Wow… that is awesome. Its five in the morning and I needed that for a meeting later today and had to look at it from my MAC. So awesome!! thanks for sharing!

  5. Waited a long time to find something that could view .pub files. This worked fantastic…Thanks so much for directing me to this site.

Many thanks – only took 2 mins for a 1 page pdf.

  7. Have been stymied by these .pub files from my fellow Windows Microsoft Publisher files. Up until today I just had to pester them for another format. Today I successfully converted one to a PDF (which is what I wanted – the guy said there was no option in Publisher to do that). I sent the PDF back to the author to see if all his formatting was retained. FYI – I do a newsletter for my veteran state council and this guy is a great contributor and was trying for a way to submit things that were easier on me to put into my publication (I use Adobe InDesign). This could be the beginning of a great relationship for a good source of content. Yea!

This sounds helpful if you want to read a document by converting it into a pdf. But not so good if like me you have several hundred Publisher files that you might like to access, work-on and print-off on your shiny new Mac! Any suggestions?

Thanks for the article. The only problem that I see is uploading private or sensitive documents. It’s a shame there isn’t a program that can be downloaded so the conversion may be done on the MAC.

Thank so much for this – not only did create the publisher file to a pdf, but then I took the pdf and converted that to a word doc so I could copy and paste the text easily. It lost the formatting, but worked very well. Thanks again.
