Here I blogged about how great the Apple Reminders app is for managing tasks in the GTD workflow. What I didn’t mention is that you can drag emails straight into the reminder app and it will link the email to the task. Here’s how.

The Reminders app needs to be open. Grab an email from Apple mail and drag it into any list in Apple reminders. A new reminder will be created with the email subject as the reminder name, and a link back to the email will be embedded into the task.

Check it out, a reminder with an email in it!

I’ve previously used Things by Cultured Code and Todoist, Wunderlist and others. But recently I’ve given Apple Reminders a run and I must say it’s surprisingly good. After 6 months, it’s become my favourite place to organise my tasks. It’s got great integration with Siri. ‘Hey Siri, add a reminder to plan for holidays.’ It has enough features that you can roll out all the GTD methodology, but nothing extra to clutter it up. Stable. Syncs across to iOS devices. And it’s free. Here’s how to streamline it for GTD.

For my particular workflow and management I’ve settled on using Google calendar. My tip for super fast calendar access in OS X is to dedicate a browser to your Google calendar and use that browser for nothing else. You may choose Chrome or Safari or Firefox, I chose Microsoft edge and here’s why.

This week Fujitsu surprised everyone by releasing new software that allows older scanners to work with OSX Catalina. The software is 64 bit and works works in MacOS 10.15, it supports older models like the ScanSnap S1500, and it fully integrates with Devonthink Pro. Thankyou Fujitsu!

When Wunderlist closed down we’ve been left without a good task manager that easily syncs across Google and MacOS. AnyDo doesn’t have a MacOS app. I can’t get my Google assistant to add a new todo into to ‘Todoist’. Google Tasks isn’t great but it does have the advantage that it is built right in to gMail. So it’s what I’m running with at the moment. Google tasks is available on MacOS but the App is called ‘Tasksboard’. Here’s the convoluted way to get it up and running!

I’ve recently discovered some great new Church management software called Fluro. It’s the most creative software I’ve used for ages. I’m spending so much time learning how to use it I haven’t had time for a proper article about but I’ve decided to so some short podcast episodes talking about some of the features.

You can listen to the podcast here. There’s a facebook group here. Fluro’s official page is fluro.io

notepad

My search for a good notetaking app has been a little on the obsessive side, but to me, the one thing a computer should be able to do well is take notes. I have spent 2 years on this one. I’m talking about an application where I can make a short note to myself and come back later and find it easily.

The combination of Notational Velocity on the mac, synced with Simplenote on the iphone, is for me the winner.

There is a noticeable lack of any notetaking app for mac that will sync with an iphone. By notetaking application I mean an application that you can use like a notepad: Write down thoughts on a topic. Come back later and find them. Add a few more notes when you want to. A new application, Shovebox seems to be OK, although it’s still early days…
