My 10 year old DocuCentre-V stopped working when I upgraded to the new silicon M1 MacBook Pro. It was giving a ‘Failed’ error in the printer message window.

To resolve this I needed to download the Fuji Xerox Print Driver for Mac OS X Installer and re-install the drivers again. (I used migration assistant to bring everything across including the drivers, but they did not work.)

Here’s the link:

https://www.fujifilm.com/fb/download/apeosport/5_c7780/mac1013e/prt

I found the driver by searching for DocuCentre-V C7775.

Here’s the file that worked:

Here are the instructions on how to install it. (Same as with previous OS):

Most new printers have PostScript built-in although if you are trying to print to an older printer or you are in a workplace with lots of PCs they may not have built-in postscript. If this is the case the default drivers in OSX will not work.

Here’s how I got my a non Postscript Fuji Xerox printer working with my 2020 MacBook Pro running Catalina.

  1. Give the printer an IP address. (e.g. 10.0.0.200)
  2. Download the latest drivers manually from Fuji Xerox. (https://onlinesupport.fujixerox.com/processDriverForm.do?ctry_code=SG&lang_code=en&d_lang=en&corp_pid=DCVC2263&rts=null&model=DocuCentre-V+C2263&type_id=2&oslist=Mac+OS+X+10.15&lang_list=en)
  3. In System Preferences: Printers go to Add new printer, select IP then put in the options as follows:

I needed to select LPD because IPP didn’t work.

I needed to select FX Print Driver for Mac OSX. The default DocuCentre drivers (Called FX DocuCentre-II C4300 v3016.103 PS) did not work. The specific drivers for a printer rely on the printer having Postscript, whereas the FX generic print driver does not need the printer to have Postscript installed.

I have a Fuji Xerox Apeosport IV (Docucentre) printer with a stapler/booklet folder.  I had an A5 booklet that I was printing but the fold was the wrong way so that the inside of the booklet was on the outside.   Thankfully there is a little setting from the print dialog box under ‘Printer Features.’ If you change it from ‘single fold’ to ‘booklet fold’ it just reverses the direction of the fold.

Many printer manufacturers have a built in counter on the drum cartridge in their laster printers. This is so that the drum cartridge will get replaced at a regular interval and remain in good condition. The drum can in many cases continue to function a long time after the counter has expired. It is possible to reset the counter in the drum cartridge to extend it’s life. Then you can wait until there are marks or faded patches on the printed pages before you replace the cartridge. In some cases I have been able to reset the drum cartridge 3 times, extending the life of my cartridge to 400,000 copies instead of the the recommended 100,000.

There appears to be a compatibility issue with Mac OSX lion and lots of printers.   (Talked about here on the apple support pages)  The printer may or may not work properly, but you will get an error that says “The optical photoconductor needs to be replaced.” If you see this error it may be that your drum needs replacing, but it could also be a communication problem with the printer.

When I try to print on my new Fuji Xerox document C4350 last week I got an error saying “The optical photoconductor needs to be replaced.” and the printer would not even print.  If you play around with a different print setting (e.g. USB, Jetdirect, LPD, IPP) you may be able to get the printer working (still with the error!) till Apple repairs the problem. Here’s how I got my Xerox printer working. Continue reading ⟩
