The easiest way to connect a printer to a mac is to use the USB cable to plug the printer into the computer. For most printers, that’s all you have to do. There’s no need to use the CD that came with the printer – OS X already comes ready to work with printers.

On a Macintosh the control key has two main uses.

Firstly, when using the mouse, if you hold down the control key while you click the mouse it gives you a contextual menu – a mini menu related to what you are doing at the time. Try it now – hold down the control key and click somewhere in this window. A menu will appear! This is exactly the same as a right-click with the mouse. The control key was more important in the days when Apple computers just had a one button mouse.

I used to write BASIC code on my good old Commodore 64, but the Macintosh has been a bit impenetrable in terms of where to get started with programming.

I was recommended this book and am using it to work through with my son. It teaches Python, a simple language, using your mac. It’s a beauty.

I’m not sure how long this has been available, but I just noticed that if you go to ‘order prints’ in iphoto it now works in Australia. You can even order calendars, hardcover books, and cards from within iphoto.
